ACTING FOR FILM- WINTER SCHEDULE 2010
Hi
Actors and Actresses and Those who LOVE them!
DID
YA'LL SEE THE LOGANS?! THEY BOTH LOOKED GREAT ON THEIR OWN SHOWS this
week! I am excited and am filled with joy right now! I just
got finished watching a sneak preview of both LOGAN HENDERSON
and LOGAN MILLER's new shows for 2010, one on Nickelodeon (BIG
TIME RUSH) and the other on Disney XD (I'M IN THE BAND). I was so proud
of them! STUDENTS: Was it cool for you to watch your teachers on TV
with their own shows? Both Logans were TEACHERS of mine for around 2
years (Many of you had them as Film 1 and Film 3 students) and they
were students of mine for 4 years. In fact, both Logan's were in the
same Film 2 class performing the same Film 2 work as my Film 2 class
is doing THIS WEEK!!!! The Logans have paid their dues and are on their
way! I bet both shows will be big hits, but best of all...LOGAN and
LOGAN looked GREAT AND LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE HAVING FUN AND LIVING THEIR
DREAM!
The
Logan's worked hard to get where they are today with being stars on
a new show. 2010 is gonna rock for them! To reach your dreams, it takes
talent, but also- imagination, listening and paying attention in class
and staying IN class (Logan Henderson took 3 classes a week for six
months), a good work ethic, thinking outside the box to be able to stand
out in the crowd, patience, persistance, a real love of acting, and
a little bit of luck. It also takes a good team effort with both Child
and Parent.
PARENTS-
Sometimes Parents do not understand that they play a huge part in this
mix whether they want to be or not. Without a parent who cares and tries
to be knowledgeable about their child's career, a child actress or actor
does not stand a chance. FEBRUARY 20-21, we will have a big parent seminar
which will include Selena Gomez's mother, MANDY TEEFEY who will
talk about what it takes to be a parent of a star. (Mandy is also a
producer!) Please make sure that you make this weekend a priority. Think
of it as a "must" to help your child's career! That weekend will be
coupled with actor MICHAEL WELCH teaching my students. Mike Welch
plays Mike Newton in from the "Twilight" movie series! He will be doing
the "Harold" with the students that weekend (more details later).
"HOUSE"
CASTING DIRECTOR COMING! The casting director on "HOUSE"
STEPHANIE LAFFIN is coming to the studio January 30-31 to teach
a seminar! She has been nominated herself for both an emmy and artios
award for her work and the show itself has won many Emmys! We will learn
from her point of view what it takes to be on a TV show that has won
so much attention. Be sure and sign up, but We won't charging for this
seminar till after the new year (Jan 2, 2010).
BOOKINGS!!!
Lots of bookings! My students are booking...all working all
over the country- L.A., New York, Louisiana and more. Check out the
"Bookings" section for details!
WINTER
SCHEDULE! To be considered a serious actor, one must always
be working on their craft. Classes begin mid-January for the winter
session 2010. Send in your requests to 4classreg@gmail.com
and please go by the sign-up procedure to make sure your child gets
registered for the winter session and upcoming seminars. YOU WILL
NOT BE CHARGED UNTIL JANUARY 2, 2010! (Exception: Christmas
Break intensives).
If
you have a question for me specifically, email to CathySully@gmail.com.
I have taken my email back and it is now my private email address. No
one but me sees the emails that come to that email address, so feel
free to chat with me about whatever you would like. If you are going
to L. A. for pilot season, there are two classes only (cuz most of you
are going Feb 1st) on SATURDAY AT 3:00-5:30 Jan 16 and 23.
A NEW FILM 1 CLASS during Christmas Break!-
Those of you who have friends who've been trying to get into the program
can take a new Film 1 intensive THIS MONTH. Our Dec 28-30th Film 1 with
Vicki is full, so we have made a new Film 1, Sunday, Dec 27-Wednesday,
Dec 30th during CHRISTMAS BREAK from 2:00-5:00 with the very popular
BEN SULLIVAN teaching! You will even get $5.00
off one of YOUR classes if they use your name in their signup
for this Film 1 class (one name per sign-up). There are also some other
CHRISTMAS BREAK INTENSIVES (FILM 3, SONGWRITING, SINGING CLASS). Check
them out under "Christmas Break intensives".
CLASSES-
I have enjoyed classes this Fall. Besides my regular Film 1- New Master
2 series, my Masters have done scenes from Glee (learning how to hold
your own and stand out in an audition where you have to sing, dance
and act), The Closer (how to play a sweet schizophrenic), The Mentalist
(sarcastic and fun comedy while eating apples and walking) and The Cleaner.
We are about to head into our romance series.
Many
of you have asked me about when to get an agent. Please see the special
section regarding this subject in the newsletter below.
I am looking forward to seeing what 2010 holds for my students. 2009
has been so inspirational and a year of growing and gaining strength
for me!
Blessings
and Joy to all of you,
Cathryn
Sullivan

INTERESTING
TRIVIA:
FORMER STUDENT BARRY WATSON was my student when I worked here in Dallas
back in 1988-89. I took him to California in 1989 for five weeks along
with other teenagers and helped get him his first agent in California.
I was 7-8 months pregnant with Cody Linley when I took him. Now, he's
stars in the TV show "SAMANTHA WHO" as Todd and was the Star of "What
About Brian" (played Brian) and "7th Heaven" as Matt. He also was the
star in Boogeyman where Cody Linley did voiceover work. Cody and Barry
have never met although they have been in close contact many times and
even did a movie together.
FAQ
ABOUT AGENTS:
After the Mitchell Gossett seminar I had a lot of parents approaching
me, wondering if their child is ready for an agent. I have been teaching
acting for many years and have come to know when an actor has developed
the consisitency and confidence (along with ability and maturity) to
be ready to get an agent and start auditioning regularly.
If
you ask, I will be honest. So only ask if you are willing to hear my
honest opinion. I love my students and don't want to see anyone get
discouraged by taking that leap before they are ready. Is it possible
to get an agent before you are ready? Yes, in many cases an agent will
pick up an actor before they are fully developed. For instance, there
were several of my students who did an outstanding job in front of the
agents because they had lots of practice and one on one time with me
or my aids to prepare. However, in the classroom setting the student
may still be developing and not consistently performing at their top
potential.
So,
what does this mean for the actor? If an agent picks up an actor before
they are fully ready to be competitive in the market it can lead to
much frustration and disappointment. Casting directors often don't have
time to see every child for an audition, so they ask that the agent
only send their top talent in a certain age range. If you are not ready
yet, you will not fall into that category. Also, if the actor isn't
ready to compete with other, more developed actors in the market, it
can lead to much frustration at not ever progressing beyond the initial
audition, and the casting director may remember the less than stellar
performance and not want to see the actor again. When an actor doesn't
get callbacks or favorable feedback, the agent will be less likely to
send them out.
I take great pride in the reputation that I have built with the agencies,
both locally and in L.A., as they trust that I won't send them anyone
who is not ready to compete with the best of the best. I will not recommend
anyone who I do not feel is consistently performing to the top of their
game. I know this upsets many of you, but I can assure you I do it out
of care and concern for the actor as well as the agent. I don't want
anyone to get discouraged by rushing things and not take the time to
reach their full potential. Thank you for understanding. I love my actors
and want what's best for them over the long haul.
I DO LOVE MY ACTORS AND ACTRESSES!
Blessings
and Joy,

WOW!
WHAT A SUMMER!
This has been the best summer EVER!! We have had over 65 classes
(Film 1-Masters) this summer, THREE huge seminars with some of the most
powerful casting directors and heads of casting directors in Hollywood!
Of course, we also have had many buff-ups, a Marketing and Monologue
class! It has been wonderful!
KIDS
CAME FROM ALL OVER THE STATE AND COUNTRY! We had children
and teenagers come from all over the state of Texas (Houston, San
Antonio, Rio Grande Valley, Austin, Corpus Christie, and Abilene) as
well as all over the country (Idaho, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Tennessee,
Florida, and Oklahoma.) It's been an honor for me to have
so many people come from so far away to take classes at my studio.
I appreciate all of your commitment and dedication! Thanks to
all of you for sharing your child and teen with us! It has been
so much FUN!
BOOKINGS!
My students are booking up a STORM! It's so COOL! BIG stuff,
too! Can't wait for you to check out the BOOKINGS section of this
newsletter!
FALL
CLASSES!!! There is also
info on Fall Classes AND TWO big seminars coming up!
NEW CLASSES!!-
We have new classes this Fall. I have a HOME SCHOOL class on Thursday
mornings. Many of you have asked...We will try it out!
SINGING CLASS-
There has also been a need this year for many of you to have bars of
music ready for movie
and pilot auditions, so We have a wonderful singing coach, BRIDGETTE
HAMMERS that is going
to be teaching group classes on Mondays helping actors reach their goals.
She will have all kinds of music for you to choose from too! Cool, eh?
WEBISODE CLASS-ALSO,
we have RONDA
JAMES who is going to teach
"How to create, write and produce
your own webisodes" with a DVD given of your work at the end of the
session. Both of these classes have awesome people teaching them and
I can't wait for you to get to know them!
PARENT SEMINAR- One is a Parent
Seminar: SELENA GOMEZ's mom, Mandy Teefy, is writing a book about raising
a teen star. She and I will be putting that seminar together for
possibly October 17th-18th. She and I will be discussing that when I
get to L.A.
***SAVE THE DATE!***
HUGE
SEMINAR on NOVEMBER 14-15! I am producing a HUGE Seminar
where top agent
MITCHELL GOSSETT of UNITED
TALENT AGENCY (where celebrities like Rachel McAdams and Johnny
Depp
are represented) and MELISSA BERGER (Lead agent at
CESD agency for Kids, Teens
and Young Adults), as well as ERIN KASZYNSKI (Child
and Teen Agent for film, TV and commercials at Kim
Dawson Agency) will be here. Even if you have an agent
in L.A., Mitchell Gossett is a GREEEEAT teacher and you will learn sooooooo
much from his teaching - I Loooooooove him!!! He's got the magic
touch. He's the one who took Miley Cyrus from a native Tennessee
girl and helped make her a super-star millionaire and has been her only
L.A. agent up until a few months ago. He is also the agent of Cody Linley
(Starstruck, Dancing with the Stars, Hannah Montana), Taylor Momsen
(Gossip Girl, Spy Kids 2, How the Grinch Stole Christmas) Victoria Justice
(Zoey 101, Title character of Nick's new pilot "The Untitled Victoria
Justice Pilot"), Madison Pettis (Cory in the House, Game Plan), Chelsea
Staub (regular
on Jonas). I've known Mitchell for about 8 years and he has continued
to rise in power and knowledge, and I always learn from him every time
he comes to TEXAS because he is a bundle of knowledge!! He and Melissa
will talk with Parents too. Some say THIS seminar is the best
one all year!
MELISSA
BERGER will be teaching voiceover classes. Many in
the biz consider her the best voiceover agent for Teens, Kids and
Young adults in the business. Big stars continue to use her
even after they've moved on to the BIG FIVE adult agencies because
she's so good at what she does. Cody Linley just received a
2009 Audie Award for his voiceover work as "Jesus" this year for "Word
of Promise" - thanks to Melissa!
Look for IMPORTANT INFORMATION
in the section about Mitchell and Melissa including Prep Dates for
the workshop where each student will pick a script or monologue and
partner to do for the workshop. Prep Dates will be Sunday, November
1 and almost EVERY NIGHT the whole week before they come, so be sure
you look to see what works best for your child. The whole process
is quite exhilarating!
COMMENTS from
Sharon Lieblein,
Christian Kaplan and Howard
Meltzer are included in this newsletter, along with some of
the things that are important to them! I know I've been promising
this to you, but you guys kept me working 13-15 hour days at the studio!!!
Seriously, I've worked many 8:00am-10:00pm days and, although I'm
a bit tired, it's been fun. There is soooo much knowledge and information
in those pages that have quotes from these powerful people. Read them
even if your child did not take those seminars. It is like a piece
of gold just being handed to you!
Those
seminars were so successful! Sharon was so impressed with
my students that she auditioned and put 13
of my students on tape the day of the seminar for projects she is
casting, and Erin Kaszinsky
from the
Kim Dawson Agency came to the Howard Meltzer Seminar where she fell
in love with several of my students and decided to interview 12 of
my students for possible representation (and has signed many of them)!!
I
just got a new MOVIE poster to put on my wall. Miss ASHLEY
BOETTCHER saved me a poster from her movie premiere. Her
movie came out this month, "Aliens in the Attic."
It was cute! Hope you got to see it! She is on the poster!
CLICK
HERE to read more about Ashley and her new movie.
I
will be teaching several classes in the Fall when I come back from
L.A. Please take a look at the schedule and send in your child/teen's
registration. Theresa and Debbie will be taking care of it while
I boogie to L.A. and take care of my son, Cody - after I run
to San Marcus and check on my other two boys, Scott and Ben.
All THREE boys send their love to you guys. They want you to
know that they really enjoyed being a part of the Summer of 2009 at
Cathryn Sullivan's Acting for Film school.
Blessings
and Joy to all of you,
Cathryn
Sullivan

BIG
MOVIE NEWS! BRYCE CASS
booked a Columbia Pictures film "BATTLE: L.A." starring
Aaron Eckhart. It films in Louisiana and Bryce will work from August
(He's already there!) through December and it's a THREE picture deal
filled with aliens, guns, choppers and lots of crying for Bryce! YAY!
He and Terry are having a grand time on that set!
PAYLEIGH
KNIGHT is hot right now! She booked a part on CSI and
then, she booked a SAG feature film called "Barry Minko."
WOW! You are cool, Payleigh!
CODY
LINLEY won an Audie Award for "Inspirational/Faith-Based
non-fiction 2009" for his part as "JESUS" in the WORD OF PROMISE / NEW
GENERATION series. Cody's special one-hour episode for "Hanah
Montana" had over 6.9 million viewers. It was the most watched
cable show of the week and beat out most prime time shows that night!
Just this week, I found out GLENN MCCUEN booked the
NICKELODEAN PILOT "Untitled Bugliari and McLaughlin
Project" that Sharon Lieblein cast! He booked the role of Aloe.
(This is the project that many of you went on tape for and some got
called back for roles like Bucket, Skinner and Piper). He also
booked a part on "MARMADUKE", the 20th Century Fox
film that Christian Kaplan cast. This is the film that shot in
Canada. Christian was working on it when he came here to do his workshop.
Remember him asking if everyone had their passport?! Well, GLENN
had a passport AND
he was perfect for the part! How cool is that?!
JULIANNA
KELLER booked the part of "Young Grace" on the set of one
of MY favorite TV
shows,
"Saving Grace", (TNT) and when she got on that set, she found out
another one of my students was there that week - JESSICA MECHLER!
TWO of my students on that set at the same time! YEA! I like it!
ROBERT HAYES has been busy! He booked a SAG McDonald
commercial, a NIKE commercial and a basketball film. TOM MADEN
was also in this film as one of the leads AND he also did a short.
JESSICA BANUELOS booked the
Film "Jesus Prodigal Son" and Up and Down" (independent film).
AIDEN
VITELA MARTINEZ did a Disney XD Promo spot and it's cute!
JEREMY
BECCERA booked an indie film in San Antonio, a Chuckie Cheese
commercial, an HEB commercial, AND a film in Houston! WOOO!
COLT
MILLS booked a short film called "Changing."

STEPHEN DINH booked the Star Wars LightSaber commercial.
COLE CORDELL booked the Star
Wars Helmet Blaster.
MCKALEY MILLER and CAS
ROONEY booked a Red Baron Commercial.

*MORE INFO ON SINGING 101, WEBISODE
AND HOMESCHOOL ACTING CLASS:
SINGING 101 is an introduction
to singing.
The focus will be finding a comfortable song to sing for auditions.
Whether they consider themselves a rocker, pop star, rapper, or
a country singer, we will have a song for them! We will work on
the importance of singing from the diaphragm and using the voice
as an instrument, while using a section of a different song each
week. At the end of this class, the students will be able to sing
with more
confidence and understand how the voice works. (There is also
a SINGING 102!)
*INTRO TO WEB VIDEOS- Led by
a professional web developer (She does MY website!) with nearly
15 years experience, this class will give your child the unique
opportunity to work on the "Other" side of the camera and learn
the basics of web-based video "movie" production in a kid-friendly
environment. Working in teams, students will be introduced
to brainstorming and pitching ideas, story-boarding, writing,
pre-production planning, lighting concepts and shooting and video
editing techniques, as they develop original 2-3 minute webisodes
from concept to completion. Student webisodes will be featured
on the web, and each student will receive a DVD of his or her
work
at the completion of the course. Students need only to bring an
imagination and willingness to learn and share. Equipment provided.
For more info, contact RJ at jamesinc3@gmail.com or call
469-774-3103.
*HOMESCHOOL ACTING CLASS: I am
offering a class for homeschoolers, but will continue to use my
building block method (Film 1-master classes). This will be a
mixed level class with students learning whatever level they
are on. For more details on my building block method, go
to www.cathrynsullivan.com and click on "Classes".

ARE COMMENTS MADE BY CHRISTIAN KAPLAN, HEAD OF CASTING AT 20TH
CENTURY FOX AT THE SEMINAR FROM JUNE, SHARON LIEBLEIN, HEAD OF CASTING
AT NICKELODEAN AT HER SEMINAR IN JULY AND HOWARD MELTZER, CASTING
DIRECTOR OF "HANNAH MONTANA" and "I'M WITH THE BAND." Read
and learn!
Cathryn
Sullivan
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHRISTIAN
KAPLAN SEMINAR NOTES (HEAD OF CASTING AT 20TH CENTURY FOX)
GENERAL
NOTES:
- Make sure to read the ENTIRE script if it's given.
COMMENTS (as noted by Erin Kaszynski, Kim Dawson Agent):
- If the casting director is gracious enough to let you pick which
scene you want to do, be sure to choose the one
that is most comfortable to you.
- Make sure to print the actual sides and don't pull from the script,
as the sides change all the time.
- It is important to make decisions/choices in a scene - don't give
up the power.
- Don't overly gesture with your hands and watch head bobbing.
- Be mindful of things like rocking back and forth, twirling hair,
fidgeting and constantly clearning your throat.
- Don't wear things that perpetuate fidgeting, like a scarf because
it makes it difficult to focus on your acting.
- ALWAYS know your lines for an audition. Be prepared.
-
Keep hair out of face. Makeup is not good. The point is
to try and look natural.
-
Think about the choices you make and if they make sense for your character.
- Make
"selfish" choices and take control of the scene. Don't let your
partner bring you down in the scene.
-
Understand the genre you're in (comedy, drama, etc.) and play it that
way. Be sure personality is appropriate for the scene. Know
your character's location in the scene.
-
Be prepared for improv in a scene and when someone throws imrpov at
you, go with it.
-
Make sure to bring in your prop if the casting director requests
it.
-
Pay attention to body language. If you aren't enjoying yourself
it will show.
-
If there is a word you can't pronounce, then ask.
-
Understand the emotions of the character and connect with the character.
-
Understand the context is so important!
-
Be careful not to anticipate the lines of the other character.
-
Always be sure to have a headshot and resume for an audition and that
your contact information is on the resume.
-
When the reader says a word and you are to repeat the word, be sure
to say it just like the reader did.
-
Come in confident and keep confidence. Being wishy washy implies
insecurity.
-
Don't add dialogue that isn't in the scene.
-
And most of all - don't rush the scene.
GENERAL
NOTES (by Erin Kaszynski, Kim Dawson Agent):
-
Work on your diction and articulation.
-
Be careful of sarcastic banter with casting director when in workshops.
-
Own the scene. Don't feed off the energy of your reader.
-
If a casting director asks for an adjustment in the scene, and you
don't understand, ask for clarification.
-
Don't be too actor-y. (CS-In other words-don't "act", just "be"
the character.)
-
Understand your charater's goal in the scene.
-
Be careful not to over-act. (CS-Again, if you are being the character,
you won't be over-acting.)
-
After diretion is given, continue to be confident. (CS-Several of
you looked less confident, or deflated after you
wer given direction. You will ALWAYS be given direction. You
must get use to it and go with it!)
-
Be sure to pull hair out of face for auditions and don't wear big
earrings or accessories that would be distracting. (CS-You will
see this "hair in the face" thing to be a continual complaint by
several casting directors AND ME!)
-
Don't forget headshot and resume for workshops or auditions. (CS-If
you have one. If you don't, no worries.)
-
Come into a scene with an objective.
-
Make sure to listen to the other character - don't anticipate lines.
-
Avoid playing a mood. (CS-Playing specific choices is much more
interesting to watch.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHARON
LIEBLEIN SEMINAR NOTES (HEAD OF CASTING AT NICKELODEON)
Notes Paraphrased by CS
- What
can you do to make yourself stand out?
-
You read it. You read it again and then you read it again and
after that you read it again to figure it out.
-
Producers will give you direction - sometimes just to see if you are
directable.
-
Acting can be a hobby and it is a great hobby, but YOU are in charge
of YOU!
-
What I (Sharon) teach is audition technique. I don't teach
you what you need to know once you get on the set.
-
Sharon likes monologues for character development work.
-
Acting is reacting.
- Don't
Say "I just got the sides." (CS-Joey Paul-Jensen hates this,
too. They know EVERYONE just got the sides!)
- "When are the callbacks?"
- Makeup
is disgusting. (ANOTHER continual complaint I get from casting directors
and agents!)
-
We (NICK) want a real kid.
-
No bangles or jingling change.
-
No tight jeans with stuff sticking out because it is distracting.
-
OUTFITS MATTER. If it's a preppy role, wear a button down.
Average role? Wear a T-shirt. SELL IT THE BEST WAY
YOU CAN. (CS-When Cody booked "Hoot" he wore what the character
wore in the book. For Jake Ryan, he dressed like what Jake Ryan
might wear. Cheesy? Maybe to some people, but it
means "bookings" for many professionals, however.
-
Pay attention to what you are selling. What is your package?
-
Do not wear form fitting anything - no hats.
- TABLE
READ IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME AND NETWORK IS WATCHING. Kids
are fired at the TABLE READ.
-
"Know your character and the lines will just come."
-
Sharon hates "sitting" in the audition. She prefers you always
stand because there is more energy that way.
-
They see 300 - 1000 kids for every role. Only 30 are brought
back. You need to stand out and make it special, finding those
places in the sides that make you laugh and do something different
about it.
-
Do not stop pacing / timing because you are trying to find your place.
-
Don't change the words - it changes timing.
-
Don't add words.
-
Make sure the diction is clear; don't swallow the words.
-
Be careful not to sway when doing a scene.
-
It's comedy! Your character walks a certain way and talks a
certain way. How does he stand, etc.? Sketch comedy needs
to be bigger. Make STRONG choices.
-
When doing a scene, never turn to the side.
-
Make sure to stay in character even during the reader's lines.
-
When there are notes in the scene such as "bright side", this is your
clue on how to play it.
-
If you don't know how to pronounce a word, ask someone or look it
up! (She even told one boy that this one of the reasons he didn't
get called back for a project.)
-
Do not kill your last line; final moment needs to be great!
End scene STRONG.
HEAD
SHOT / RESUME NOTES:
-
Never have a picture with braces.
-
Sharon loves color pictures (hates blackand white.) (CS-BTW, black
and white pictures have been "out" for years.)
-
Wants pic to be straight on - no side looks.
-
Need a crossover picture (for comedy or drama) or two different pictures.
-
Resume needs to be simple, three columns. List film
credits first, then TV, etc. Don't list commercials.
Write "conflicts available upon request."
-
Do not put "extra" work on your resume.
-
If you can't roller blade or play the clarient, do not put it on your
resume! Example - Boy who said he could roller blad was
cast for a commercial where he had to roller blad; he broke his leg
the first day. His agent was mad at the parents and kid and the
casting director and producer wer mad at the agent.
-
She doesn't care to read about awards that don't pertain to theatre.
Example - First thespian freshman inducted
in country is cool.
-
When listing theatre on resume, Sharon wants to know if it's the
lead or supporting and should say "theatre" and
not "state."
-
DOB should always be on resume. (CS-Many agents in the
DALLAS market do NOT want the Date of Birth on the resume, so
keep two different resume's: one for Dallas and one for L.A.
people.)
-
Make sure information on resume is accurate. Example
- Resume listed Cathryn Stroud as Nick Casting Director, when
she is actually a Casting Director that casts for Disney.
Sharon is the head of casting at Nickelodeon, so this was not
good.
-
For casting director workshops, don't list each casting director.
Simply put "various casting directors."
-
On special skills, don't say things like "enjoys singing", but
rather "sings (alto)." Be specific. Instead of dance,
list what kind of dance. If listing things like a sport,
put the number of years in parenthesis. Example - Tennis
(3).
- She doesn't
need to see on your resume if you are an honor student.
-
If you are SAG Eligible, write that rather than "SAGE."
-
On resume, agency should be listed on top and manager on bottom.
-
Never put "screen test" on resume.
Sharon
commented that while seeing all of the kids, she was thinking
"WOW! Something is being done right here! There are
so many great kids. For the next pilot I do, I'm COMING
HERE, WOW!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
GENERAL
COMMENTS for HOWARD MELTZER SEMINAR, CASTING DIRECTOR OF "I'M
IN THE BAND"
AND "HANNAH MONTANA"
(Notes Paraphrased by CS)
- Be careful of swaying. Do not have
hands in pockets. Also, be aware of flailing arms.
-
Do not stop in the middle of a scene.
-
Make fun choices, but be mindful of looking too pre-planned.
-
When reader or other person in room laughts at your
line, don't stop scene or lose character.
-
Be conscious of things such as pressing your lips together
too much and other habits.
-
Careful not to anticipate lines.
-
Don't go profile in the scene.
-
Please keep hair out of face for auditions. (CS-Ah ha! Here
it is again!)
-
L.A. Casting Directors want DOB on resumes, although
some Dallas agents do not.
-
Does not like to see extra work on resume, especially when
you already have principle and supporting roles.
ERIN'S
FEEDBACK from HOWARD MELTZER SEMINAR
- Be prepared for audition, but don't come off as overly
prepared. (CS-Student must do the scene as if it's
the very first time, even on the 22nd take.)
-
Watch fidgeting and playing with clothes.
-
Be careful not to anticipate lines.
-
Make sure to stay in character even when reader is saying
their lines.
-
Make sure to connect with the reader by making eye contact
and staying focused.
-
Don't wear hats to audition unless needed for the scene.
-
If you forget a line, don't break character.
-
Make sure to know the character's "story."
-
Do not wear eyeliner for auditions.
